Terms of Service
Effective September 23, 2026 ยท Last updated September 23, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Solstice LLC, a Utah limited liability company ("Solstice," "we," "us" or "our"). They govern your use of the Solstice website, the Solstice Portal, and every conversation, document and feature they provide (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
Solstice is software that helps people understand court processes, organize their documents, find information in them, keep track of deadlines and prepare drafts. It includes a conversational AI virtual paralegal, also called Solstice, that you can talk with in your own words.
2. Not a law firm, not legal advice
- Solstice is not a law firm and is not a substitute for a lawyer. We do not give legal advice, and nothing in the Service is legal advice. Information the Service provides is general, and it may not fit your situation.
- No attorney-client relationship. Using the Service does not create an attorney-client relationship between you and Solstice or anyone else, even if an attorney uses Solstice.
- Not privileged or confidential in the legal sense. Your communications with Solstice are not protected by attorney-client privilege or the work-product doctrine. We protect them as our Privacy Policy describes, but a court could order them disclosed.
- You make the decisions. You decide what to do in your case, and what, if anything, to file or send. Solstice never files anything with a court or sends anything to another party for you.
- If you need legal advice, talk to a lawyer licensed where your case is. See Not legal advice for when that is especially worth doing.
3. You are talking with an AI
- Solstice's conversations, answers, summaries and drafts are generated by artificial intelligence, not by a person.
- "Virtual paralegal" describes the kind of help Solstice gives. It is a product name, not a credential: Solstice is not a licensed paralegal or Licensed Paralegal Practitioner, and it does not work under a lawyer's supervision.
- AI output can be wrong, incomplete or out of date, even when it sounds confident and even when it cites a source. Court rules change, and deadlines depend on facts Solstice may not know.
- You are responsible for reviewing everything Solstice produces, checking it against the sources, the court's rules and your own records, and confirming important dates and requirements with the court or a lawyer before you rely on it.
4. Where Solstice works
Solstice's court-deadline calculations and court guidance currently cover Utah only. People anywhere may create a free account and talk with Solstice, but outside Utah it can offer only general information, and it may not know the rules, forms or deadlines where you live. We do not represent that the Service is appropriate for any court or jurisdiction other than Utah.
5. Who can use Solstice
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use the Service. If you use the Service for an organization, you confirm that you have authority to accept these Terms for it, and "you" includes that organization.
6. Your account
- Give accurate information when you create your account, and keep your email address current.
- An account is for one person. Keep your password private. You are responsible for activity in your account, and you must tell us promptly at hello@solstice-legal.com if you believe someone else has used it.
- Choose the account type that fits you: an individual account if you are representing yourself or exploring, or a firm account if you are a licensed legal professional.
7. Attorneys and firms
If you use Solstice in a legal practice, you remain solely responsible for your work product and for complying with your professional obligations, including competence, supervision of non-lawyer assistance, client confidentiality, and any duty to tell a client or a court about your use of AI. You are responsible for having the right to upload your clients' information, and for reviewing every output before you rely on it or file it.
8. Your content
- You own your content. "Your content" means the documents you upload, the messages you send, and what you create in the Service. You keep all of your rights in it.
- What you let us do with it. You give us a limited permission to store, copy, process and display your content only as needed to provide the Service to you, to keep it secure, and to comply with law. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in backups until they are overwritten.
- We do not train AI on it. We do not use your content to train AI models.
- Output belongs to you. As between you and Solstice, you own the drafts and other output the Service generates for you, subject to the rights of others in any material you supplied. Similar output may be generated for other users, and they may own theirs.
- Your promises. You confirm that you have the right to upload and use your content, and that doing so does not violate the law, a court order or anyone else's rights.
9. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service to harass, threaten, stalk or intimidate anyone, or to invade anyone's privacy;
- use the Service to mislead a court, to fabricate evidence, or to break the law or a court order;
- upload material you have no right to use, or malware or other harmful code;
- access or try to access another account's data, or probe, scan or test the Service's security without our written permission;
- get around your plan's allowances, share an account, or resell the Service;
- copy, scrape or reverse engineer the Service, or use it to build a competing product;
- use the Service to offer legal services to others unless you are licensed to do so.
10. Plans, billing and cancellation
- Free plans. Start Here and Evaluate are free, need no payment details, and do not expire. We may change what a free plan includes.
- Allowances. Each plan includes the monthly allowances shown on our pricing page. Allowances reset on the first day of each calendar month and do not roll over.
- Paid plans are not yet on sale. When they are, the terms below apply, and we will show you the price, the billing period, and how to cancel before you pay.
- Automatic renewal. A monthly or annual plan renews automatically at the end of each billing period, and your payment method is charged the then-current price, until you cancel. We will remind you before an annual plan renews.
- Cancelling. You can cancel any paid plan online in the Portal at any time. When you cancel, your paid plan ends right away and your account moves to the free plan.
- Six-month Your Case option. This is a single payment for six months and does not renew automatically. You can cancel it at any time like any other paid plan.
- Prorated refunds. When you cancel a paid plan, or we close your account for a reason other than a breach of these Terms, we refund the unused part of your current billing period, prorated by the day, to your original payment method within 10 business days. Taxes are refunded where the law allows.
- Price changes. We will tell you at least 30 days before a price change affects your plan, and you can cancel before it takes effect.
- Taxes. Prices do not include taxes, which we will add where the law requires.
- Enterprise. Enterprise plans are governed by the organization's written agreement with us, which controls if it conflicts with these Terms.
11. Changes to the Service
We are always improving Solstice, so features may be added, changed or removed. If a change significantly reduces what your paid plan includes, we will tell you in advance, and you may cancel.
12. Ending your use
- You can stop using the Service at any time, and delete your account in the Portal with Delete account.
- We may suspend or close an account that violates these Terms, that creates legal risk or risk of harm to others, or where the law requires it. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you first and give you a chance to save a copy of your content.
- Sections 2, 3, 8 (your promises), 13 and 15 through 22 continue to apply after your use ends.
13. Our intellectual property
The Service, including its software, design, text and graphics and the Solstice name and logo, belongs to Solstice and its licensors and is protected by law. We give you a limited, personal, non-transferable right to use the Service under these Terms. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without any obligation to you.
14. Other services and links
The Service may link to or work with websites and services we do not control, such as court websites, legal-aid organizations and e-filing systems. We are not responsible for them, and your use of them is governed by their own terms.
15. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent the law allows, Solstice disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement and accuracy. We do not warrant that the Service or its output will be accurate, complete, current, uninterrupted or error-free, or that it will produce any particular result in your case.
16. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Solstice will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill or case outcome, arising out of or related to the Service or these Terms, even if we were told such damages were possible. Our total liability for all claims arising out of or related to the Service or these Terms is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose or one hundred U.S. dollars ($100).
Some states do not allow some of these exclusions or limits, so they may not all apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
17. Indemnification
If you use the Service in violation of these Terms or the law, or your content violates someone's rights, you agree to defend and hold Solstice harmless from the resulting claims, losses and reasonable legal fees, to the extent the law allows.
18. Disputes and governing law
- Talk to us first. Before filing a claim, email hello@solstice-legal.com describing the problem and what you want. We will try in good faith to resolve it within 30 days.
- Governing law. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
- Where claims are heard. Any claim that is not resolved informally must be brought in the state or federal courts located in Utah, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction. Either of us may instead bring an individual claim in small claims court if it qualifies.
19. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will post the updated Terms here with a new "last updated" date, and, if a change is material, tell you by email or in the Portal at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you keep using the Service after a change takes effect, the updated Terms apply. If you do not agree, stop using the Service and delete your account.
20. Electronic communications
You agree that we may give you notices, disclosures and other communications electronically, by email to the address on your account or in the Portal, and that these satisfy any legal requirement that they be in writing.
21. Copyright complaints
Your uploads are private to your account. If you believe material in the Service infringes your copyright, email hello@solstice-legal.com with a description of the work, where the material appears, your contact information, and a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorized.
22. General terms
These Terms, the Privacy Policy and any plan terms shown when you buy are the entire agreement between you and Solstice about the Service. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a term is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer these Terms without our consent; we may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. Neither of us is liable for delays caused by events beyond reasonable control.
